the first line from the irish tune called John Ryan's

Our purpose is to hold Traditional Irish Music Sessions at local venues in the Nanaimo area.

These sessions are modeled after the Traditional Irish Music Sessions found in pubs all over Ireland. The format is fairly informal, usually just a bunch of musicians sitting together and playing some tunes.

If you're interested in playing with us, we suggest coming to a session to hear what we sound like. With thousands of Traditional Irish Tunes to choose from, we have developed a core list of tunes to help you get started. Visit the Tune Book page to see a list of some of the tunes we play.

No two sessions are the same as we have a few regular muscians but also various musicians who join us when they can, and a new face or two almost every session. The variety of tunes also varies greatly depending on the musicians who show up, and that's something we love about our sessions!

Our sessions are open to all musicians who already play or want to learn to play Irish Traditional Music, although traditional Irish instruments are preferred. If you're interested in joining us, we encourage you to come watch a session and say hello!

Beginner Practice Sessions

Do you want to join us but are still learning and not quite ready to play in the Sunday Sessions? Are you learning a new Irish instrument, and want somewhere to get together and practice our session tunes? This is not a music lesson, but it will be a safe and comfortable place for new players to become comfortable playing our session tunes. Please Join us Thursday evenings at Nanaimo Curling Club for our Beginner Practice Sessions! The sessions are held upstairs in the Lounge which is a shared space with Nanaimo Curling Club members, and the Bar will be open during this time.

Please see the Events Page for more information.
The Beginner sessions will run Thursday evenings during the Curling Season (October 2024 - March 2025) except for Halloween and Boxing Day.

These will be musicians only events, no spectators please.
